Strange Beautiful Music (SBM) is New Music Detroit’s (NMD) annual multi-day new music marathon concert. Traditionally held in Detroit every September, SBM runs the gamut of new music - from contemporary classical and world music to experimental "out" jazz, free improvisation, electronica, and beyond! I am playing the role of the Devil in L’Histoire du Soldat (The Soldier’s Tale), Igor Stravinsky’s masterwork combining song and dance to tell a story of hubris, greed, and the inevitable fate that follows. Experience jazz motifs, tango rhythms, marches, a waltz and a chorale as Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings and Eisenhower Dance Detroit combine to perform this chamber classic.
